The four days that mark the movements of the earth around the sun provide a great time to reflect. The Solstice are December 21 and June 21- the longest night and longest day. The Equinox are September 21 and March 21- the days and nights are equal.
Without our help, the earth keeps moving, and it's movements impact our lives, whether we notice it or not.
In the far north, the summer solstice is the peak of long days, and may be celebrated for plentiful daylight (and sometimes sunshine, sometimes rain). OR- you could focus on if today is the longest day, the following days will be shorter and shorter until December when the cycle starts all over.
We have choices:
what do we notice about the marvels of the earth?
how do we think about changes, and what difference does it make to our mood and attitude?
Today is good day to pause and consider this.
Thanksgiving Day has so many special aspects that highlight how much we have to be grateful for. You get to pick your focus- family, friends, football, feast, foliage and so much more. It is easy to get swept up in the planning, or to feel sadness if something from the past is no more- Taking a few moments to get quiet, and focus on what is going right can turn that around.
